R.H. Willson has been in business for nearly 70 years with an auto repair facility for 25 years and one of the most common questions we receive is about what kind of oil is needed for your vehicle. Every vehicle will need an oil change and most shops will give you options for your vehicle but the question remains: “is the synthetic oil worth it?”
What’s the Difference?
Synthetic oil is motor oil that is man-made. It is made up of several chemical compounds and power additives. Synthetic oil has been around for a while, since 1929 but like everything else, has evolved over time. The technology behind synthetic oil results in fewer contaminants and lower risk of engine buildup.
By using synthetic oil in your vehicle, you will need to get an oil change about every 6,000-7,000 miles which is double the amount of time you can go if you are using non-synthetic oil. Synthetic oil will offer your engine better protection while keeping it cleaner. It also protects your engine better at high temperatures and will give you greater gas mileage over time.
Non-Synthetic oil is refined from crude oil and is cheaper for an oil change in your vehicle. This is about all the benefits you will see from using non-synthetic oil in your vehicle. If you cannot afford full synthetic oil for your oil changes, think about a synthetic blend as well. This may be a little cheaper but is still better than non-synthetic oil.
The Bottom Line
