10 of the Best Vehicles from Films Over the Years

Roberta Willson • September 9, 2024

Cars play a significant role in movies, they change how the film is viewed and enjoyed. We have compiled a list of 10 movies with some of the best or iconic vehicles of their time.

1. 1960 Ford Anglia 105E, aka “The Flying Ford” (Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, 2002)

This car was used in the 2002 Harry Potter sequel. The car has been illegally enchanted to fly and is said to be inspired by a friend’s car growing up that used to take J.K. Rowling on joyrides in her teenage years.

2. 1967 Shelby GT500, aka “Eleanor” (Gone in 60 Seconds, 2000)

For the 2000 remake, Eleanor got a makeover from the original yellow Ford Mustang to a gray 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback even though the movie depicted it as a Shelby GT500.

3. 1967 AMC Pacer, aka “Mirthmobile” (Wayne’s World, 1992)

Wayne’s World had an iconic car because it was so odd to look at, neither classic nor sporty but still had an impressive impact on the movie's reception. This vehicle was actually sold in 2022 at an auction for $71,500!

4. 1966 Ford Thunderbird (Thelma & Louise, 1991)

Don’t forget about Thelma and Louise in 1991. This 1966 Ford Thunderbird is the star of the show when the two best friends drive off a cliff in the Grand Canyon in the movie's closing scene. No one knows if they lived or died, and no one needs to know!

5. 1992 Ford Explorer XLT UN46 (Jurassic Park, 1993)

This vehicle is commonly thought to be a Jeep and was originally written in to be a Toyota Land Cruiser but as is often the case; there was a deal struck between Ford and Steven Spielberg..and the rest is history.

6. The Tumbler (Batman Begins, 2005)

I don’t think we could have a cool film car list and not include the Batmobile. The 2005 film Batmobile is a hybrid between a Lamborghini and a Humvee.

7. 1948 Ford De Luxe, aka “Greased Lightning” (Grease, 1978)

Cars are one of the central focus in the movie Grease. The vehicle that helps win over the heart of Sandy is a souped-up 1948 Ford De Luxe. The vehicle gets a facelift and paint job that changes the vehicle and transitions into the theme song for the movie, Greased Lightening”.

8. 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, 1986)

A movie classic paired with a classic car - look no further than Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. The 1961 red Ferrari is the co-star along with Ferris Bueller as he plays hooky from school and ends up crashing his father’s prize possession.

9. DMC DeLorean (Back to the Future, 1985-1990)

This might be the car that made film history and introduced how a car can change films in the future! The DeLorean is a 2 seater sports car that is modified into a time machine. The car is used throughout the Back to the Future films and continues to be one of the coolest cars in a film to this day.

10. Aston Martin DB5 (James Bond)

Bond, James Bond, and his Aston Martin are like one in the James Bond movies. The Aston Martin DB5 is the sports car of all sports cars and is even cooler with all the modifications given to make James Bond the king of cool, luxury, and adventure; nobody beat 007.

Although there are so many more cool vehicles in the past and more recent films, we had to narrow it down. If you had to make your list, what would you add?

Did you get a letter in the mail from the manufacturer, car dealership or even check online to find out that your vehicle has a recall? What should you do, how urgent is the recall, what steps do you need to take to ensure your vehicle is at its’ optimal preference level? First, let’s put it into perspective. While a recall is not something you should ignore; there are over 400 recalls a year that affect more than 25 million vehicles in the U.S. alone. In addition, the average vehicle will have 4 recalls in its lifespan and recalls never expire. Now that we have some perspective. What is the first thing you need to do once you become aware of your vehicle’s recall status? If you purchase your vehicle new or used from a dealership, contact them directly and they will advise you. If you purchased your vehicle through a private seller, contact the vehicle manufacturer and they are required by law to either repair the issue, replace the recalled item or refund the purchase price of the vehicle, minus depreciation.
