11 Ways to Save on Your Vehicle As Gas Prices Rise

Roberta Willson • April 26, 2022

Gas prices are higher than they have been in years and that means you need new ways to save and make money. Here are 11 ways you can save money with your vehicle when gas prices are high and as they hopefully go back down:

 1. Keep tires inflated

Keeping your tires inflated will ensure better gas mileage and save you some extra money for fewer trips to the gas pump. Most vehicles have a recommended tire pressure of between 32 and 35 psi, but it can vary so check your owner’s manual.

2. Sell used parts and buy junk cars

At R.H. Willson we buy and sell used auto parts and buy junk cars. We also buy scrap metal, we update our pricing here but call us for the most accurate information. So, if you are looking for a little extra cash, give us a call.

3. Use cruise control

If you are on the highway or on a long stretch of road, use cruise control. This will also help with your gas mileage and even help your ankles feel a little better!

4. Accelerate slowly

Unless you’re being chased by someone, accelerating too fast is almost a surefire waste of fuel. Speeding up slowly as needed will not only give you a smooth ride, but you’ll also maximize your mileage.

5. Pass on premium

If your vehicle requires it, don’t choose the premium gas. Paying for premium fuel won’t make a difference in how well your car runs. Stick with regular and save your money!

6. Sell used parts and buy junk cars

Too much? You guessed it - we sell used auto parts and will buy your junk car! Call us today!

7. Sign up for rewards/loyalty program - gas station or credit card

If you don’t have a credit card that offers points, miles, or cashback rewards, now might be the time to look into it. This will save you some extra money at the pump. You can also sign up for specific gas station rewards - heck sign up for them all so that any pump you head into you, you can get a few pennies per gallon off!

8. Pay cash

Most gas stations will offer a discount per gallon if you pay cash. These days, we know carrying cash is not a popular choice but before you head to the gas station, head to an ATM or even a store to get cashback - you will be happy you did!

9. Find cheaper gas with gas apps

There are a few good apps out there like GasBuddy or even Waze that will tell you the gas station prices nearby. I would suggest downloading a couple of these free apps to help navigate the best route to cheaper gas!

 10. Sell used parts and buy junk cars
In case you didn’t catch it the first two times, we buy junk cars and sell used parts! If you are looking for a little extra cash, give us a call.

11. Buy used parts
If you are in need of car parts, we not only pay for your scrap metal, parts and cars but we sell certified used parts with warranties. Buying used parts will help you save money and allow you to keep that car on the road longer without needing to purchase a new one!

Wrapping Up

Ok so it was really only 9 different tips to save money but selling your junk parts, metals and vehicles is a great way to make some extra money and help the environment. We hope you can save some money with these high gas prices and please call R.H. Willson to find out how much you can get for your junk car!

Is it time for a new vehicle? Are you looking for a great way to make some money before you purchase a new or used vehicle? Did you just put on new tires or new parts into your vehicle? A salvage yard is a great option! A salvage yard might give you more money for your vehicle or parts than from a private sale or as a trade-in at a dealership. Once you have decided to bring your vehicle to a salvage yard, now what? How do you prepare yourself before you arrive and what happens when you get to the salvage yard? Let’s go through the steps to get you the cash you want from your used vehicle! Step One: Make sure you have the title to your vehicle. In order to sell your car to anyone, you need the title to your vehicle and a salvage yard is no exception. If you cannot find or have lost your title, you can request a new one from the RMV. The requirements to obtain a copy are dependent based on which state you live in.

Did you get a letter in the mail from the manufacturer, car dealership or even check online to find out that your vehicle has a recall? What should you do, how urgent is the recall, what steps do you need to take to ensure your vehicle is at its’ optimal preference level? First, let’s put it into perspective. While a recall is not something you should ignore; there are over 400 recalls a year that affect more than 25 million vehicles in the U.S. alone. In addition, the average vehicle will have 4 recalls in its lifespan and recalls never expire. Now that we have some perspective. What is the first thing you need to do once you become aware of your vehicle’s recall status? If you purchase your vehicle new or used from a dealership, contact them directly and they will advise you. If you purchased your vehicle through a private seller, contact the vehicle manufacturer and they are required by law to either repair the issue, replace the recalled item or refund the purchase price of the vehicle, minus depreciation.
