Roberta Willson • May 20, 2021
Are you looking for a used auto part or have you thought about it in the past? One of the biggest challenges for people we talk to is they do not know where to begin when looking at a salvage yard for their used auto part needs. If you are looking for a used auto part, have in the past and could use some help, here are three tips and tricks for your next search.

1. What to know and how to prepare before you get there
All salvage yards are laid out a little different and can even be different from the last time you visited due to ever changing inventory. Before you head down to Willson’s Auto or a different salvage yard, call first. Call to see if they have the part(s) you are looking for and if they do, ask them where you will need to go to check out the part(s) you are in search of.

You can also send Willson’s Auto a message at https://bit.ly/used-parts to inquire about any of your auto part needs.

2. What to expect at the salvage yard
Some salvage yard dismantlers will be willing to retrieve the part for you but sometimes you will need to find and retrieve the part yourself. In this case, be prepared with your own tools and a way to retrieve the part yourself. Salvage yard parts can be gone quickly as many people are looking for great deals on quality used auto parts so when you find what you want you will need to act fast that day.

3. What to get at the salvage yard
At Willson Auto, we have a 90-day warranty on all our used auto parts and can be assured that the parts we sell you will be good for your vehicle. It is sometimes a better idea to take more than you need. There are often great deals at salvage yards and they are deals that do not last because the parts are always changing. If you think you might need a part and you see it, you might want to take it home with you.

If you need any help or have any questions before you get to Willson’s Auto or while you are here, our experienced team is always ready to help. Give us a call at (978) 433-2503 today.

A salvage yard is a great option! A salvage yard might give you more money for your vehicle or parts than from a private sale or as a trade-in at a dealership. Once you have decided to bring your vehicle to a salvage yard, now what? How do you prepare yourself before you arrive and what happens when you get to the salvage yard? Let’s go through the steps to get you the cash you want from your used vehicle! Step One: Make sure you have the title to your vehicle. In order to sell your car to anyone, you need the title to your vehicle and a salvage yard is no exception. If you cannot find or have lost your title, you can request a new one from the RMV. The requirements to obtain a copy are dependent based on which state you live in.

Did you get a letter in the mail from the manufacturer, car dealership or even check online to find out that your vehicle has a recall? What should you do, how urgent is the recall, what steps do you need to take to ensure your vehicle is at its’ optimal preference level? First, let’s put it into perspective. While a recall is not something you should ignore; there are over 400 recalls a year that affect more than 25 million vehicles in the U.S. alone. In addition, the average vehicle will have 4 recalls in its lifespan and recalls never expire. Now that we have some perspective. What is the first thing you need to do once you become aware of your vehicle’s recall status? If you purchase your vehicle new or used from a dealership, contact them directly and they will advise you. If you purchased your vehicle through a private seller, contact the vehicle manufacturer and they are required by law to either repair the issue, replace the recalled item or refund the purchase price of the vehicle, minus depreciation.
